Honoring Sobonfu
Dear grief ritualists who grieved in Sobonfu’s rituals,
Let us come together to remember and honor her. What a tremendous gift she gave to us!
I’m calling us together to record a group council as we share:
What did you learn from Sobonfu?
How do you imagine she wants us to carry forth her legacy of grief ritual?
What is a sweet or funny moment you shared with her?
How can we best honor her, her family, and her village?
I invite you to reflect on these questions before we meet, so we may share in a succinct and powerful way.
In a time when so many rituals may be shared without cultural context, in a time when grief rituals are growing, let us come together as village to transmit her love and wisdom.
The recording of our council will be shared for others to learn about grief ritual, especially grief ritualists who want to honor her life and her people. Excerpts of the recording may also be woven into a film I am making honoring Sobonfu. This film also explores healing around race, gender, intimacy, and secure attachment (the body’s felt sense of village.) By joining you are consenting to be recorded for these 2 intentions.
I will also share a way we can give back to her village by funding drinking water in her village of Dano. Wisdom Spring, no longer works in Burkina Faso and thanks to Coby Leibman we are now able to reciprocate by funding wells in her area.
